Supporting Families Facing Neuroblastoma. Every week, Mitchell’s Miracles supports families across the UK who are facing one of the most devastating childhood cancers — Neuroblastoma. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, life changes overnight. Hospital appointments, long journeys, and time away from work quickly become part of daily life. At the same time, many families are facing the emotional shock of a rare and aggressive diagnosis. That’s where Mitchell’s Miracles steps in. We provide practical and emotional support so families can focus on what matters most — their child. Helping with Essential Costs. Throughout treatment, families often face unexpected financial pressure. Travel to specialist hospitals, parking, food, and fuel costs can quickly add up. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we are able to help families with essential costs such as:
When families are fighting childhood cancer, they shouldn’t also have to worry about how they will afford petrol or food. Small support can make a huge difference. Understanding Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive childhood cancer that develops from immature nerve cells called neural crest cells. It most commonly begins in the adrenal glands above the kidneys but can also appear along the spine, chest, neck, or pelvis. Around 100 children in the UK are diagnosed with Neuroblastoma each year, most of them under the age of five. It is the second most common solid tumour in children after brain tumours. In rare cases, Neuroblastoma can even be detected before birth during pregnancy scans. Stages of NeuroblastomaDoctors classify Neuroblastoma into stages depending on how far the cancer has spread. Stage 1 – The tumour is small and localised and can usually be removed with surgery. Stage 2 – The tumour has begun to grow locally but has not spread far. Stage 3 – The cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes or tissues and may require intensive treatment. Stage 4 – The cancer has spread to other parts of the body such as bones, bone marrow, liver, or skin.
