Hope Rising: The Most Impactful Charity Events Of 2023

As a small charity established in 2013, we must be candid with you and say that 2023 was our worst year to date. This could be attributed to a myriad of factors, including the prevailing climate, the economic recession, and the cost of living crisis, which have resulted in a lack of funding, consequently affecting the families we endeavour to assist.

We had to pause our grant applications on two occasions, and we were perilously close to shutting down our charity altogether. However, things took a positive turn towards the end of the year when support for our cause surged, enabling us to aid a total of 45-50 of our target 100 families who suffer from Neuroblastoma.

We're determined to support all 100 of these families and, while we have a long way to go, we are halfway there.

​Community fundraising endeavours

We couldn't have achieved this without the aid of numerous supporters who have shown incredible generosity.

We must mention the Liberty Centre in Romford, which raised £10,000 via their Santa's grotto.

Our quiz night raised £400.00 with thanks to our host Sharon and the Crem Kitchen​ 

The De Confidimus Lodge 6253, also hosted a quiz night that raised £1000.

Les Ambassadeurs Casino, which dedicated ten days in November to fundraising, generated an astonishing £20,000 in support of our cause.

We're grateful for all the extra help and support shown to us, and we're ready to start 2024 by continuing our efforts to help families in need.

Stay alert for the upcoming community events we have planned

We have numerous upcoming events that we hope will further our fundraising efforts and help us to aid more families in the coming months. Two Masonic Lodges are hosting events in support of our charity. Deo Confidius 6253 is hosting a Ladies Night in Southend on 3rd February, and Lodges Friendship 5587 is hosting a quiz night at Orsett Hall on 17th February.

The manner in which we extended assistance to families during the Christmas season.​

​Every year, we endeavour to support families with Neuroblastoma, especially during Christmas time with our gift appeal. This year, we presented each family with a Christmas voucher to choose their own presents. In previous years, we donated gifts to families, but this proved to be too costly and complicated. Thus, we appealed for donations to our 6th Annual Christmas appeal to bring joy to a child's face.

​We were pleased to give every child a £100 one4all gift voucher and their family a £30 Asda food gift voucher, creating unforgettable memories. One family shared a short video from their daughter, Lucy, thanking us for her voucher, and this reminded us why we do what we do. 

​The impact of your contributions on supporting families

Our donations, sponsorships, and fundraising amounts are utilised to help families with a child diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. They can apply for a financial care grant, which helps alleviate the burden of caring for their sick child. Parents frequently must leave their jobs to take care of their children, leading to more stress on the family.

The grant can help pay for food, utility bills, and transportation to and from the hospital, which can quickly accumulate during a child's treatment and recovery. This creates immense stress on the family as a whole, and we aim to relieve them of that stress as much as possible.

The manner in which our charity extends aid to families

​Mitchell's Miracles, we aim to assist as many families as possible affected by Neuroblastoma. We have supported just under 50 families financially and emotionally, and we aspire to help more. One of our families is Alfie, a young adult who has been battling stage 4 Neuroblastoma for most of his life. We want to alleviate the burden of caring for a sick child, reduce poverty, and relieve stress so that families can focus on their child's recovery and treatment.

Mitchell's Miracles is a Romford based charitable organisation that provides essential financial and emotional support to families across the UK who are dealing with the devastating impact of childhood cancer. One such family we have supported is Ireland's, who was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma in July 2019 and received treatment at Addenbrookes children’s Hospital. After enduring frontline treatment for nearly 18 months, Ireland's mother had to move home, resulting in having to travel 60 miles to and from hospital stays. Mitchell's Miracles was able to offer the family two separate financial grants to help with their travel to and from the hospital.

Our charity is vital, as it offers much-needed assistance to families struggling to cope with the financial strain of cancer, especially with the looming cost of living crisis that almost resulted in our charity closing down. Dulcie, a five-year-old girl, is one such case that highlights the critical role we play in supporting families. In September 2021, Dulcie's parents received the heartbreaking news that their daughter has stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer, and she began chemotherapy at Birmingham Children's Hospital. She will undergo treatment for at least 18 months, and Mitchell's Miracles has been providing ongoing financial and emotional support to help the family navigate this difficult journey.

Cancer can have a devastating impact on a family as a whole, and we recognise that the emotional impact is just as challenging as the financial one. To this end, we offer families a chance to improve their wellbeing and mental health by receiving support from our emotional support worker, Lisa. This invaluable service helps families realise that they are not alone and offers them advice and signposting to where they can get additional support. Lisa has become an essential asset to families who need clarity and understanding of the help available.

We offer financial assistance to families from all backgrounds residing in the UK and receiving treatment at a UK hospital. We have been known to help families with clothing, bedding, furniture, and unexpected items their child needs as a result of the diagnosis. These items may seem small, but they can play a vital role in a child's recovery.​
