Greetings and a warm welcome to the month of March! With Easter fast approaching, I wanted to take a moment to provide you all with an update on our Easter Gift Appeal for the year 2024.Our supporters have been actively contributing to our 'Easter Gift Appeal 2024' as evidenced by the image above. In our efforts to bring joy to the children with cancer at Great Ormond Street, we are appealing for gifts from our Amazon wish list this year. As unfortunate as it is, easter eggs cannot be given to children undergoing chemotherapy as it would negatively impact their health. We humbly invite you to visit our Amazon wish list and choose a gift to donate. All items will be directly shipped to our office, where they will be carefully sorted and distributed by the Mitchell's Team. Your generosity and support in this cause are deeply appreciated. Donate here Venn Group Valentines Fun...raising!We wanted to note the extraordinary love that Mitchell's Miracles received on Valentine's Day, particularly from the Venn Group. One of the Venn Group Recruitment employees, Rosie, had previously attended the same school as Mitchell and has been a devoted supporter of the charity ever since. In fact, Rosie personally nominated Mitchell's Miracles as the company's Charity of the Year, demonstrating her passion and dedication towards the cause. |
After extensive searching, we were fortunate enough to come across Pound Fabrics, a highly cooperative fabric company that offered us a very generous quote. As a result, we were able to procure an abundance of vivid fleece material, and we extend our deepest gratitude to them for their unwavering support of our Bravery Blanket project. In response to our efforts, Pound Fabrics remarked that they were astounded by the overwhelming support that we have garnered for this noble cause, and they expressed their eagerness to provide us with all the fabric we require. |
The blankets are made up of various colored fleece fabric squares, each measuring 25cm x 25cm, which are then tied together with cut-out strips. To personalize their square, each child is given cotton squares that document their treatment journey. In addition, smaller white cotton squares are provided to allow the children to write affirmations and words of encouragement to attach to their fleece square. We have created a sample to showcase the final look, and welcome your thoughts on it. |
This is a sample...
If you wish to lend a hand in cutting squares, you may bring your own pair of scissors and volunteer. Alternatively, you could support the cause by sponsoring a square for a fee of £2.

We have an exciting new project for 2024 that we would like you to hear about and perhaps offer your help.
However, before we get into that, we must extend our heartfelt gratitude to The Liberty Management and particularly Adrian Racaru for their unwavering support throughout a challenging year.
Their efforts in creating awareness about the ruthless Neuroblastoma childhood cancer have been exemplary. In addition, all the proceeds from ticket sales were donated to our charity to assist families affected by the disease.
We're so proud to announce that The Liberty Shopping Centre Ice Grotto event raised over £10,000 for Mitchell's Miracles Neuroblastoma Charity
Founder, Kristel said "Mitchell’s Miracles charity is so very grateful to The Liberty management team for their impeccable support, and for choosing our charity to raise donations with their Ice Grotto, to support families of a child with Neuroblastoma childhood cancer.
"We would also like to thank the wonderful community for supporting this magical event.
Again, thanks to the help of Adrian, the talented marketing manager of The Liberty Shopping Centre, and the Great Grotto team, we were able to open the Grotto early for Leila, a brave local girl who has spent an extensive amount of time in the hospital due to Neuroblastoma.
Unfortunately, she has not had many chances to enjoy typical 3-year-old activities. During her visit, Leila had a delightful time meeting Santa and receiving wonderful gifts from Adrian.
We are thrilled to announce our highly anticipated product set to launch in 2024.
The team at Mitchell's Miracles proudly presents the "Bravery Blanket", designed to bring comfort to children undergoing treatment for Neuroblastoma. Our innovative kit consists of a fleece blanket with individual panels that children can personalise by attaching a cotton patch and drawing a picture or writing affirmations. With each treatment, surgery, or procedure, children can add to their blanket, creating a large and comforting fleece wrap.
Our hope is that the "Bravery Blanket" will provide warmth and support to these brave children as they face the challenges of treatment. In addition, the completed blanket will be a treasured memento of their courageous journey.
To support our annual aid efforts for 100 children, we require approximately 200 metres of fleece material to create blanket packs. Additionally, if we secure adequate funding, we hope to offer an extra pack to parents who accompany their children to hospital cancer wards, which can often be chilly due to constant air conditioning required for proper ventilation and preventing the spread of illnesses.
Thus, we are reaching out to manufacturers for fleece material donations and businesses/sponsors for funding support.
To further our cause, we are in need of volunteers who are willing to assist us in our endeavours. If you share our vision and wish to contribute to our efforts, we would be grateful for your help.

Hope Rising: The Most Impactful Charity Events Of 2023
As a small charity established in 2013, we must be candid with you and say that 2023 was our worst year to date. This could be attributed to a myriad of factors, including the prevailing climate, the economic recession, and the cost of living crisis, which have resulted in a lack of funding, consequently affecting the families we endeavour to assist.
We had to pause our grant applications on two occasions, and we were perilously close to shutting down our charity altogether. However, things took a positive turn towards the end of the year when support for our cause surged, enabling us to aid a total of 45-50 of our target 100 families who suffer from Neuroblastoma.
We're determined to support all 100 of these families and, while we have a long way to go, we are halfway there.

Community fundraising endeavours
We couldn't have achieved this without the aid of numerous supporters who have shown incredible generosity.
We must mention the Liberty Centre in Romford, which raised £10,000 via their Santa's grotto.

Our quiz night raised £400.00 with thanks to our host Sharon and the Crem Kitchen
The De Confidimus Lodge 6253, also hosted a quiz night that raised £1000.
Les Ambassadeurs Casino, which dedicated ten days in November to fundraising, generated an astonishing £20,000 in support of our cause.
We're grateful for all the extra help and support shown to us, and we're ready to start 2024 by continuing our efforts to help families in need.
Stay alert for the upcoming community events we have planned
We have numerous upcoming events that we hope will further our fundraising efforts and help us to aid more families in the coming months. Two Masonic Lodges are hosting events in support of our charity. Deo Confidius 6253 is hosting a Ladies Night in Southend on 3rd February, and Lodges Friendship 5587 is hosting a quiz night at Orsett Hall on 17th February.
Additionally, we're organising a Wing Walk for participants on 24th June in Kent. Please get in touch with us at [email protected] if you'd like to help our cause.

The manner in which we extended assistance to families during the Christmas season.
Every year, we endeavour to support families with Neuroblastoma, especially during Christmas time with our gift appeal. This year, we presented each family with a Christmas voucher to choose their own presents. In previous years, we donated gifts to families, but this proved to be too costly and complicated. Thus, we appealed for donations to our 6th Annual Christmas appeal to bring joy to a child's face.
We were pleased to give every child a £100 one4all gift voucher and their family a £30 Asda food gift voucher, creating unforgettable memories. One family shared a short video from their daughter, Lucy, thanking us for her voucher, and this reminded us why we do what we do.

The impact of your contributions on supporting families
Our donations, sponsorships, and fundraising amounts are utilised to help families with a child diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. They can apply for a financial care grant, which helps alleviate the burden of caring for their sick child. Parents frequently must leave their jobs to take care of their children, leading to more stress on the family.
The grant can help pay for food, utility bills, and transportation to and from the hospital, which can quickly accumulate during a child's treatment and recovery. This creates immense stress on the family as a whole, and we aim to relieve them of that stress as much as possible.
If you want to support our charity and our mission to assist families in need in 2024, please contact us to discuss your fundraising needs. Keep an eye out for more gift appeals on our social media pages, @mitchellsmiracles.

The manner in which our charity extends aid to families
Mitchell's Miracles, we aim to assist as many families as possible affected by Neuroblastoma. We have supported just under 50 families financially and emotionally, and we aspire to help more. One of our families is Alfie, a young adult who has been battling stage 4 Neuroblastoma for most of his life. We want to alleviate the burden of caring for a sick child, reduce poverty, and relieve stress so that families can focus on their child's recovery and treatment.
Mitchell's Miracles is a Romford based charitable organisation that provides essential financial and emotional support to families across the UK who are dealing with the devastating impact of childhood cancer. One such family we have supported is Ireland's, who was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma in July 2019 and received treatment at Addenbrookes children’s Hospital. After enduring frontline treatment for nearly 18 months, Ireland's mother had to move home, resulting in having to travel 60 miles to and from hospital stays. Mitchell's Miracles was able to offer the family two separate financial grants to help with their travel to and from the hospital.
Our charity is vital, as it offers much-needed assistance to families struggling to cope with the financial strain of cancer, especially with the looming cost of living crisis that almost resulted in our charity closing down. Dulcie, a five-year-old girl, is one such case that highlights the critical role we play in supporting families. In September 2021, Dulcie's parents received the heartbreaking news that their daughter has stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer, and she began chemotherapy at Birmingham Children's Hospital. She will undergo treatment for at least 18 months, and Mitchell's Miracles has been providing ongoing financial and emotional support to help the family navigate this difficult journey.
Cancer can have a devastating impact on a family as a whole, and we recognise that the emotional impact is just as challenging as the financial one. To this end, we offer families a chance to improve their wellbeing and mental health by receiving support from our emotional support worker, Lisa. This invaluable service helps families realise that they are not alone and offers them advice and signposting to where they can get additional support. Lisa has become an essential asset to families who need clarity and understanding of the help available.
We offer financial assistance to families from all backgrounds residing in the UK and receiving treatment at a UK hospital. We have been known to help families with clothing, bedding, furniture, and unexpected items their child needs as a result of the diagnosis. These items may seem small, but they can play a vital role in a child's recovery.

The team at Mitchell’s Miracles have been working hard this year to bring more light-hearted entertainment to our supporters.
Have you ever wanted to be an investigator? If the answer is YES, then we have the perfect event for you… On Saturday the 29th October, Mitchell’s Miracles will be teaming up with the “Spirit Paranormal” ghost hunting group for a night to remember, investigating the hauntings of Redoubt Fort in Harwich.
The moated Redoubt Fort was built in 1808 and is an impressive 180ft (60m) diameter circular building used to defend the port of Harwich against a Napoleonic invasion. Ten guns sit on the battlements. Eighteen casements below would house 300 troops in siege conditions. It mounted ten 24-pounders and housed a regiment of soldiers with sufficient food and stores to with stay a lengthy siege. Fortunately, it was never called upon to demonstrate its powers.
The fort was restored by the Harwich Society as a voluntary project. Part of the fort is now used as a military museum. Battle re-enactments and other events are held during the summer months. For more information visit Harwich Redoubt Fort.
Certified paranormal investigator, Jan Saunders, is really excited to be supporting Mitchell’s Miracles with this charitable event. Jan has many stories of her experiences whilst investigating the many venues they visit around the UK.
Jan assured me that all participants interested, will be given the chance to experience some of their great ghost hunting equipment, such as, K2’s, REM pods, trail cameras, music boxes, SLS’s, lasers, Dictaphones and more.
SO…If you are looking for a more unique challenge, and are up for a scare, then please join us on an eerie, ghost experience tour of “Harwich Fort” …enter at your own risk!
You could take this experience a little further, as there is an option to bed down in the fort for the night. You can pitch a tent up in the moat area and have a 360 view of the surrounding spooky area… “Whatever You Do, Don’t Fall Asleep.”
Fancy dress is optional, but there will be a ghostbusting prize for the best costume.
Venue: Harwich Fort, Main Rd, HARWICH. CO12 3LT
Date: Saturday 29th October

As September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight what children with childhood cancer have to face as part of their treatment.
Certain cancers such as Neuroblastoma, Leukaemia or Lymphoma can lower the platelet count.
The abnormal cells in these cancers can crowd out healthy cells in the bone marrow, where platelets are made.
Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small, colourless cell fragments in our blood that form clots and stop or prevent bleeding. Platelets are made in our bone marrow, the sponge-like tissue inside our bones. Bone marrow contains stem cells that develop into red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Signs and symptoms can include:
- Easy bruising.
- Tiny red spots on your skin.
- Excess bleeding after even minor injuries.
- Pain in your joints, particularly large joints like the knees and hips.
- Frequent nosebleeds.
- Bleeding from the mouth or gums.
- Blood in the urine or stool.
- Headaches.
If a child’s platelet count is too low, it could affect receiving their Chemotherapy.
How can you help?
You can show your support by Going Gold for the month of September and by donating platelets, bloods, funds or time. All contributions are greatly appreciated!
Receiving bloods is vital, without a normal haemoglobin count they can become asymptomatic.
Signs and symptoms can include:
- Fatigue.
- Weakness.
- Pale skin and gums.
- Shortness of breath.
- A fast or irregular heartbeat.
Please, share to show you care.
By Sharing our posts, you can help spread awareness to our cause, which could save a child's life…it only takes a few minutes! 💛

Mitchell’s Miracles provides financial and emotional support to families who's child has been diagnosed with the rare solid tumour childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma.
Not only do the families have to cope with such a traumatic diagnosis, but they also have to face the financial impact.
We want to highlight a few key points to show just some of the financial implications, when being diagnosed with cancer and how your donations make such a big difference.
Great Ormond Street is one of the very few specialist hospital's to treat childhood cancer, and with it being situated in London transport costs mount up rapidly, including the congestion charge, petrol, train tickets and parking fees.
To do this every journey everyday, could cost a family a minimum of £30.00. Then there is the travel to the child's local hospital for blood transfusions, antibiotics, platelets and dressing changes. This means hours of staying in the hospital, waiting for appointments and for the treatment to take place . Again, parking fees apply as well as the mileage to and from hospital.
The cost of eating in hospital to keep your strength up every day when your child is an impatient, and even as an outpatient is very costly. Thankfully the child will be provided meals from the NHS. A parent only receives the basic cooking facilities in hospital i.e. Microwave, toaster and kettle.
Microwave meals are very costly not as filling or healthy, unlike home cooked meals. But this is the only choice a parent has when staying in hospital with their child. It costs on average £15.00 each day to eat in hospital. Feedback from parents who are not in receipt of benefits, could not claim food vouchers from hospital.
Loss of income Is a very big problem for many families when they have a child going through treatment for Neuroblastoma childhood cancer, as they may lose their full pay and only be entitled to half pay or SSP.
The household Bill's then become affected over time including Gas and electricity, mortgage and rent. Even keeping the car running which is needed with a poorly child, adds to the financial worries. Wear and tear of the tyres, fuel, brakes, MOT’s etc, all come into effect with the amount of travelling that is needed when a child is fighting cancer.
With all the above mentioned, over 100 children a year are diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in the UK. With over 16 months of hospitalisation, on average this would cost a family around £16,000 in expenses.
If jobs are lost, or benefits are not claimed then this is a massive amount to anyone who just want to care for their child with cancer and not having the worry of trying to find where their next pound will come from.
As a charity, we are here to help families in this situation, who are affected by any of the points we have mentioned above. It may not be much but it will at least help them to focus on getting their child well without the added financial stresses that cancer brings.
You can support a family by taking part in one of our upcoming events or fundraisers which you can find out about here. If your child has been diagnosed with any stage of Neuroblastoma, please apply for financial help and/or emotional support.

Mitchell’s Miracles is a charity that continually raises awareness of Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that affects around 100 children in the UK annually. Neuroblastoma is a cancer of the specialised nerve cells, called neuro crest cells. These cells are involved in the development of the nervous system and other tissues.
Neuroblastoma is the second most common solid tumour in childhood and can occur anywhere in the body, but it most often occurs in one of the adrenal glands, in the abdomen. In some children, the Neuroblastoma occurs in nerve tissue alongside the spinal cord, in the neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. Neuroblastoma is the most common form of embryonal tumour. Embryonal tumours are characterised by the proliferation of tissue that is only normally seen in the developing embryo and are mainly seen in very young children. It is most common in under 5’s and extremely rare after the age of 10 years old. Neuroblastoma accounts for 6% of childhood cancer registrations in the UK, (over one hundred children are diagnosed annually). |
Unfortunately, the causes of Neuroblastoma are still unknown, but we do our best to provide financial and emotional support to the families and children affected by this rare childhood cancer. Mitchell’s Miracles managed to support 9 families from Birmingham Children’s Hospital, 11 families from Great Ormond Street, we saw a rise in admissions from Bristol Children’s Hospital in 2021 and we provided support to many families under the care of other Children’s Specialist Cancer Hospitals.
Although Neuroblastoma is still a rare cancer, we are hearing more and more cases being highlighted by the media and by families who apply for financial and emotional support from Mitchell’s Miracles.
It is vital that we continue to raise awareness of Neuroblastoma so the signs and symptoms can be caught early, with a higher chance of survival.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this very important topic.

With the amazing, continued support and aid of the marvellous fundraiser Norman James, Mitchell’s Miracles held its 4th Annual Golfing Tournament on Friday 6th August 2021 at Top Meadow Golf Course. The Tournament keeps getting better and better every year and even though COVID tried its hardest to derail us, we prevailed and still managed to make the event happen due to the wonderful, hardworking, and dedicated Norman James. As usual all of Norman’s spare time went into making this tournament an amazing event and we cannot thank him enough!
The day started at 8:00am with getting the players registered, handing them their scorecards and goodie bags. Then the players headed to the restaurant for their tea, coffee, cereal and full English breakfast.
At 10:00am the first players made their way to the first tee. They were then staggered up until 11:44am, being the last tee off time.
The Mitchell’s Miracles Team had a great view from the first tee, we watched all the players go off to start their round of golf and captured some fantastic photos as they started. As the round came to an end, we greeted the players on the 18th hole. The first four ball came off at 2:30pm, after a challenging 4 and a half hours on the course during the rain? The Tournament attendees were certainly looking forward to spending some well deserved time at the 19th hole.
The last of the players entered the clubhouse at around 5:00pm, where they were all seated on the front terrace of the clubhouse and a delicious 3 course meal was served. After everyone had refuelled, Norman started the presentation.
We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the following supporters for their wonderful donations:
-The Goodmayes Masonic Lodge for their £100 donation
-A member of the Masonic Lodge for their donation of £20
-Another member of the Lodge, Micky Roach, for his £40 donation
-Ali Barbers, Romford for their gift donation
-Starbucks, Romford (The Brewery) for their gift donation
-Sainsbury's, Romford for their gift donation
- Our sponsor “Keystones Property” for their £250 donation
- “Tony LeVoi”, Romford for their £250 donation
A great Charity Golfing Tournament was had by all and managed to raise an outstanding £1,612.
